Academic Language Support Service Workshops

Wednesday 20 December
10am-12:30pm and 12:45pm-3pm

ALSS will be running two workshops today. You can come along to just one or both. Registering for both the morning and the afternoon session is encouraged. Drinks and festive treats will be served at approximately 12pm. If you are coming for the whole day, don’t forget to bring your lunch.

Morning session (writing): Understanding and effective use of academic style in writing

In this workshop, you will look at a variety of academic style writing features and practice using appropriate academic style in your own writing. 

Afternoon session (speaking): Effective speaking and listening skills

This workshop focuses on improving your confidence when using signposting, repair, and clarification language. You will practise using these skills when sharing information with others in the session and have the opportunity to use a variety of note-taking strategies while listening to an interview.

LSU Crafternoon: Gingerbread House Making

Your Students’ Union is hosting a gingerbread house-making afternoon. Decorate your own gingerbread house which you can then enjoy eating over Christmas.

My Lifestyle: Turn up and play badminton

The My Lifestyle programme is a free and inclusive recreational sport and physical activity offer, that is open to and welcomes everybody of any ability. Come along for a free game of badminton, get active and make new friends. Please note this session is self-guided.
