African/Caribbean Celebratory Event
- 23 June 2023
- 3pm-9pm
- Village Bar
Loughborough University’s BAME Staff Network warmly invites staff, students, family and friends, and the wider community to celebrate the first African/Caribbean event to be held on campus.
There will be African and Caribbean food and drink, live music and more to enjoy.
This event coincides with National Windrush Day on 22 June 2023, which marks the 75th anniversary of the arrival of the passengers of the ‘Empire Windrush’ to the UK.
The event will feature a talk on Windrush by a renowned speaker, Carol Leeming MBE FRSA who will discuss the Windrush generation and why its legacy is so important in Britain today.
Congolese-style Afrobeat dancers will be performing to the rhythmic beats and striking sounds of Congolese music.
This event will also provide an opportunity to celebrate the University gaining the Race Equality Charter (REC) award. A member of the BAME Staff Network will describe the amazing work that has helped to advance race equity during the past year.
It is optional to dress up in tropical colours to add to the celebratory occasion.
