Profile
Dr Meilan Yan is an expert in sustainable economics and finance, focused on helping financial institutions stay strong and continue supporting communities, even during uncertain times. Her work covers banking regulation, behavioural finance, and managing financial risks linked to climate change, bringing fresh ideas and cross-disciplinary knowledge to solve real-world problems.
In banking regulation, she has improved how banks measure and manage their cash-flow risks, developed models to help UK banks set the right liquidity levels, and studied how rules and policies shape sustainable lending.
In behavioural finance, she explores how the mood and confidence of big investors affect their decisions, how they react to new market risks, and how they view companies’ sustainability strategies.
In sustainable risk management, she has created new ways to track how climate-related threats can cause financial risks, aiming to protect the economy and society from potential disruptions by bridging climate science with financial oversight.
