Profile

Ishara has an academic background in electronics engineering, textile engineering and nanotechnology. He has been involved in academic and industrial research activities covering areas of smart textiles and wearable electronic applications for healthcare, sports, personal electronics etc.

He has appeared in BBC South Today, BBC Surrey, Sri Lanka Rupavahini, and, his work has been featured in online outlets such as Yahoo, MSN and Physics World.

Dr Ishara Dharmasena, of the School of Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering (MEME), and a team of researchers at the University of Moratuwa (Sri Lanka) have developed a new, scalable manufacturing technique to create wearable fabrics embedded with very small power generators known as ‘Triboelectric Nanogenerators’ (TENGs).
