I am a Senior Technician (and occasional Technical Tutor) within the Department of Chemistry research laboratories.
As a Senior Technician the team and I are responsible for specialist and general support of all the research being undertaken at the time; in my case from synthesis through to biological chemistry. I really enjoy how varied my work is; in the morning I could be performing maintenance on a piece of equipment and in the afternoon planning and managing the creation of new laboratories.
In the photo, I am holding, possibly the seemingly most boring item, safety glasses. However, it really is ‘safe’ to say they are essential and it wouldn’t be possible to work in the laboratories without them!
