As a top ten University, we rely on the hard work, dedication and innovation of colleagues across our entire community. Developing a truly inclusive environment in which we can all succeed underpins everything that we do at Loughborough. Ensuring that there is equality of opportunity is fundamental to our success. Changing our disability pay gap is a long-term strategy that is influenced by the speed, or not, of societal change. We are committed to influencing change within our Loughborough community.

The Disability Pay Gap

What the disability pay gap is

The Disability pay gap looks at the average pay for a person with a known disability compared to a person with no known disability.

The gap itself is the percentage difference (mean and median) between average hourly earnings for a person with a known disability and a person with no known disability.

There is currently no mandatory reporting duty in respect of the disability pay gap; however, in the interests of openness and transparency, Loughborough University has chosen to monitor and report its disability pay gap as a voluntary initiative.

What the disability pay gap is not

The disability pay gap is not an indication of how much more employees with no known disability are earning than employees with a known disability who are doing the same work. This concept is called equal pay.

Our disability pay gap data as of 31st March 2025

94.03% of our employees have no known disability and 5.97% have a known disability.
