Your Path - Walk through what matters

To help tackle sexual misconduct and harassment at Universities, the OfS have implemented a new regulation which mandates that all Students receive training to learn about this important topic. At Loughborough we strive to build a diverse and inclusive community, where all our students feel safe. To help students better understand and identify issues related to sexual misconduct and harassment, we’ve developed targeted training to raise awareness and build confidence about how to tackle these behaviours. 

What does this training cover? 

Some of the topics in this training may be sensitive or emotionally challenging. Everyone responds to this kind of content different - and that’s okay. If you need support, University services are available. 

Our training covers the following key areas:  

  1. Consent & boundaries - Outlining what Consent is and different kinds of boundaries. 
  2. Harassment and sexual misconduct - Defining what harassment is and giving examples of different behaviours that may constitute harassment.  
  3. Dating, relationships and harmful behaviours - This section looks at what healthy and unhealthy relationships can look like, support you in recognising behaviours that cross the line and where to go for help. 
  4. Toxic university culture - This part looks at what is toxic culture, and how culture shapes our behaviours in groups, online spaces, and everyday student life.  
  5. Bystander intervention support - This module is designed to give you the tools to intervene safely, build respectful connections and how to look out for one another. 
  6. Supporting and reporting pathways - This section covers what support options are available and understand what support can look like.  

How will I receive this training?

Depending on where you are in your Academic Journey, how you receive this training will vary. Attendance at this training is monitored to ensure all students have engaged with this training. Further information about this is available in our FAQ section. 

New undergraduate - Moving into halls of residence 

Undergraduate students will be invited to attend this training as part of their induction into halls of residence. Your session will be available on your hall welcome timetable. You can find details of this on your student halls webpages 

New undergraduate - Living off campus site 

If you are an undergraduate living away from the University campus in Loughborough Town, you can self-select a session to book onto. You can book sessions online.

Existing LU students 

You can look to complete your training online via our LEARN Module.

Postgraduate student 

This will form part of your induction into your postgraduate course. Your academic department will confirm details of arrangements for your course.This will be a timetabled session in the first four weeks.   

Doctoral researcher 

This will form part of your induction as part of joining our Doctoral College at Loughborough. You will be contacted directly with details of your induction session programme in due course.. 

Wellbeing support 

Loughborough offers a wide range of wellbeing support for students who may have experienced Sexual Misconduct or Harassment. Students can report these behaviours online via our Incident reporting portal. 

Reports are handled by our trained Duty, Assessment & Inclusivity who have the specialised knowledge and skills to handle these incidents. We are student-led in our approach to responding to these incidents and our led by what you want to do.

Frequently asked questions

Can I opt out this training?

We understand that we may have some students who have lived experiences that make attending this training emotionally challenging. You can opt out this session by contacting yourpath@mailbox.lboro.ac.uk and entitling it: Opt out ‘Your Path’ training. You do not need to provide details as to why you wish to opt out.

How will my attendance be monitored at this training? 

At the end of each training session, attendees will be asked to complete a feedback form noting their attendance at the training. If you have any difficulties completing this form, you should alert your facilitator as soon as possible.  

For those students engaging with our Online Platform, once you have completed all the requisite activities you will receive a certificate from LEARN recognising your completion of the course. If you have any issues with LEARN you can contact yourpath@mailbox.lboro.ac.uk for support.
