The Loughborough research team has been investigating the challenge of metallic whiskers for more than six years.

Their recent work has investigated whisker mitigation via novel polymeric conformal coatings – the introduction of nanoparticles into standard protective coating formulae.

Exploring the interaction of whiskers with known polymer films the research team have identified the chemical formats and physical properties that produce true reductions in whisker emergence.

Their resultant technology, WHISKERMIT, has undergone rigorous testing and been demonstrated to work with a range of standard protective conformal coatings to deliver a very significant reduction in whisker growth.
