Title of thesis: Laser Surface Engineering of Biomedical Devices

Laser surface engineering technics is a fast, tailorable, clean, contactless and efficient method to modify surface. This project uses laser surface engineering and texturing to fabricate nano to micron textures on metallic materials surfaces, aiming to improve biocompatibility. The project is currently concentrated on stainless steel cardiovascular stents.

Various surface textures and morphologies, large range of surface roughness and wettabilityimproved hemocompatibility and comparable mechanical properties are expected in this research. The results also have potential to be extended to other biomedical devices.
