Lecturer in High Value Manufacturing

Dr Manuela Pacella is a Lecturer in High Value Manufacturing working in the area of laser manufacturing. She holds MEng and BEng degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the Technical University of Bari (Italy), and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Nottingham (2014). After being awarded her PhD she spent a few months working as an Applications Development Engineer in the Abrasive System Division of 3M in Milan (Italy) and then moved to Element Six (Harwell Campus, UK) where she worked as an Advanced Manufacturing Research Engineer until 2016 when she was appointed Lecturer in Cardiff University School of Engineering. She moved to Loughborough University in 2017.

Dr Pacella's research expertise lies in the field of advanced manufacturing technologies such as laser for micro manufacturing, subsurface thermal damage induced by laser ablation, ultra-hard materials and their wear modes in automotive and aerospace applications. Her research interests are in the laser-material interaction, wear characteristics of ultra-hard materials, surface modifications via laser and low-energy shock processing without coatings.
