Lecturer in Mechanics of Materials

Konstantinos Baxevanakis joined the Wolfson School as a Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering in April 2017. Prior to this, he was working as a Postdoctoral Research Associate (2014-2017) and Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor (2016-2017) at Drexel University in Philadelphia (PA), USA. He holds a PhD in Applied Mechanics (2014) from the School of Applied Mathematical and Physical Sciences in the National Technical University of Athens, a MPhil in Engineering (2008) from University of Cambridge, and a Diploma (MEng) in Civil Engineering (2006) from University of Thessaly in Greece.                                                  

Konstantinos’ research focuses on modelling of microplasticity, fracture and damage, and material instabilities in solids with an application in lightweight metal alloys used in aerospace and automotive industries. His approach relies on analytical and numerical methods, as well as data-driven modelling employing experimental data from material characterisation and non-destructive evaluation techniques. Further, his teaching activities are related to solid mechanics in addition to computational methods in engineering. Dr Baxevanakis is a Chartered Engineer with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
