Senior Lecturer in Mechanics of Advanced Materials

Dr Emrah Demirci is a Senior Lecturer (associate professor) in Mechanics of Advanced Materials at the Wolfson School of Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering, at Loughborough University. He is an expert in computational and experimental solid mechanics, mechanics and micromechanics of materials, and advanced finite element analysis. Dr Demirci’s world-class research is mainly on finite element modelling and material characterisation of advanced materials, including polymer-based nonwoven fabrics. He published 30+ journal papers and participated 50+ conferences in this field. Since his appointment as a lecturer in 2011, Dr Demirci worked on several industrial and research projects on material characterisation and finite element analysis of nonwoven fabrics, polymers, metal forming, composite materials and bones, and collaborated with numerous companies and institutes worldwide. He is an active member of The American Filtration and Separation Society (AFS) and The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)

Dr Demirci's research and expertise fields are:

  • Mechanics and microstructure of nonwovens
  • Finite element analysis of nonwovens
  • Simulation of metal forming and forging processes
  • Digital image and voxel processing methods
  • Orientation distribution of fibrous networks
  • Nonlinear finite element analysis
  • Mechanics of advanced materials
  • X-Ray computed tomography
  • Experimental material characterisation
