Industrial Placements
You will have the opportunity to complete a placement year in industry – building a better understanding of the sector, supporting your studies and learning, and guiding your future career direction. We also host an annual Engineering Careers and Placements Fair to help you plan your next move.
A placement year allows you to gain valuable work experience in a role and sector you’re interested in, develop key skills and competencies sought by graduate recruiters, and build a network of useful contacts.
Most placements are salaried, and many students are offered permanent employment with their placement host after graduation. Placements usually takes place after the first two years of study and on completion, you will gain a Diploma in Professional Studies (DPS) or a Diploma in Industrial Studies (DIS).
Our Industrial Training Coordinator gathers and supplies information about placement opportunities and will advise you on what to expect from the experience. The process is overseen by our Placement Administrator who will help you secure a placement which best matches your interests and ambitions.
Companies our students have worked for in the past include E.ON, Rolls-Royce, General Motors, BMW, Smiths Medical, GKN, Unilever, Tata Steel and Mercedes-Benz.
