Giving to Loughborough
Sport is one of the most defining aspects of Loughborough’s identity, whether it’s our world class research, our high performance sports teams and haul of Olympic medals, or our incredibly successful Athletic Union British Universities and Colleges Sports teams.
Loughborough has made the most significant contribution to sport in the UK at every level, nurturing talent through scholarships, defining the guiding principles of coaching, understanding nutrition, psychology, sport science and medicine.
Sport is a major fundraising focus; to support scholarships, develop a coaching centre of excellence, enhance our performance programme, encourage youth participation, further our ground breaking work in disability sport and of course maintain our reputation as the UK’s foremost sporting university.
Our prominence in sport is due to continued innovation and investment in people and facilities.
Loughborough Students Sports Foundation was established to help talented student athletes succeed in both their sporting and academic development by helping to reduce some of the pressures that combining studying with elite level competition brings. Support offered to each athlete varies by sport and performance level.
We aim to provide our sports scholars with first class coaching, sports science and sports medicine support as well as access to the extensive indoor and outdoor training and competition facilities – giving them access to the fully immersive environment at Loughborough. The scholarships also offer vital support with equipment and travel to competitions in order to enhance their development.
To date, over 400 individual awards have been given, making Loughborough’s scheme the largest and most highly regarded in the UK. By supporting Loughborough Sports Scholarships you will ensure sport at Loughborough remains internationally recognised for the sporting talent it produces.
Your gift; your impact
Josh is one of our current sports scholars and is a high-ranking para-athlete, who recently competed in the Commonwealth Games. He always knew he was different when he was growing up until he was eventually diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Sport helped bring purpose to his life rather than focussing on his disability. When he came to Loughborough, he became heavily involved in athletics at the University and his scholarship enables him to make the most of his training; such as travel to competitions, physiotherapy care, equipment and many more expenses that come with competing at a high level. Josh recently ranked 5th for Shot-put representing England at the Commonwealth Games 2018.
At Loughborough we are immensely proud of our ability to offer a first class education combined with a unique sporting offer. Regardless of ability we provide a sporting experience that is aimed at enjoyment and reaching personal potential. We are particularly proud of the part we played in the recent successes of GB athletes in Rio.
