Giving to Loughborough
Act today, transform tomorrow
Support Loughborough with a gift in your Will
By leaving a gift in your Will you are becoming part of the Loughborough story for generations to come and leaving your legacy at your University. You will be providing students with scholarships to come to Loughborough for the same life-changing experience that you had, funding research that changes lives and ensuring that Loughborough remains a World leading institution that you are proud of for generations to come.
What is the impact of leaving a gift in your Will?
In 2018, the University launched a new undergraduate Architecture course. The new course was funded with a generous gift from Reginal WJ Hewson in his Will, and Karla, a BEng Architecture student, explained the impact of this gift on her life, the course, facilities and teaching that were created in Reginald’s memory:
“The studio and workshop spaces are amazing. There is a regular ‘buzz’ in the studio environment; you can always find a classmate or tutor who can help with your coursework. There is constantly something going on, whether it is a guest lecture from a practising architect, a site visit or social event – the course provides opportunities for everyone and their interests. The course here at Loughborough has been a great experience for me - I’ve already learned so much just in my first year.”

Ways to leave a gift in your Will
There are many ways that you can donate to Loughborough through your Will:
- a specific sum of money (pecuniary bequest)
- the remainder of an estate after other bequests have been made (residuary bequest)
- a gift that is left to a preceding beneficiary before it passes on to a second beneficiary (contingent or reversionary bequest)
- Gifts in kind (specific items)
Loughborough University is an exempt charity, registered under Schedule 3 of the Charities Act 2011. In the UK by giving 10% of your estate to charity, you may reduce your inheritance tax liability from 40% to 36%. Please note, however, we recommend that you seek professional advice for accurate tax calculations.
Did you know that you can leave 1% to Loughborough University and 99% to your family?
