With over 600 staff and students the Department is a lively community. Students enjoy a stimulating learning and working environment in the multi-million pound refurbished Haslegrave Building, with its state-of- the-art lab facilities, study areas, and seminar rooms.

Research

The Department is active in high-quality, international projects comprising of pure and applied research and is involved in collaborative ventures with industrial and commercial partners. In seeking to identify future developments in computing, these research projects strengthen and inform teaching quality and relevance at all levels.

Assuring quality

We continually monitor course content for quality and make improvements based on feedback from students, senior industrialists and accrediting bodies such as the British Computer Society and e-Skills UK.

Major companies are directly involved in sponsoring our modules, supporting project work and providing insightful guest lectures and a series of prizes throughout the degree courses.

Industry accreditation

Several of our BSc courses are accredited by the British Computer Society (BCS), which qualifies graduates for  Chartered IT Professional registration (CIPT). In addition several of our MSci courses have been granted accreditation towards the educational requirement for Chartered Engineer (CEng) and Chartered Scientist (CSci) registration. Career prospects

Our graduates regularly go on to enjoy fulfilling careers with major national and international companies. In many cases, such careers result from placement years at these companies.

The employment level of our graduates is consistently higher than the national average.

For example, of our students who graduated in 2014 and were available for employment, 93% were in employment or further education after six months.

The quality of employment of our graduates is also reflected by their exceptionally high average salary of £27,000 six months after graduation.
