How to confirm your right to study with other types of visa/immigration permission.

You will need to show the original documents listed below when collecting your ID card or if you obtain a new visa.

EU Settled or Pre-Settled Status

  • Passport, or National ID card
  • Sharecode.  You must generate a sharecode on the UK government website selecting ‘something else’ as the reason for the check.  The sharecode will be a mixture of letters and numbers, commencing with S.

If you do not have a digital visa, you will need to provide your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP), and if you applied overseas, the 90-day vignette (visa stamp) in your passport.  If there is no date stamp on the vignette, you should also show your flight details.

Graduate Route visa

Study is not permitted on the Graduate Route visa.  Please seek advice from the Student Advice and Support Service if you hold a Graduate visa.

Hong Kong (BNO) visa

  • Passport, or National ID card
  • Sharecode.  You must generate a sharecode on the UK government website selecting ‘something else’ as the reason for the check.  The sharecode will be a mixture of letters and numbers, commencing with S.

Indefinite Leave to Enter (ILE) or Remain (ILR)

  • Passport
  • Biometric Residence Permit (BRP)

If you do not have a BRP, you should provide other evidence of your status, such as a letter from the Home Office confirming your Indefinite Leave to Enter or Remain in the UK.

Other visas (e.g. Dependant, Spouse, Ancestry)

  • Passport, or National ID card, and 
  • Vignette (visa stamp in your passport) if applicable
  • Biometric Residence Permit (BRP), or
  • Sharecode.  You must generate a sharecode on the UK government website selecting ‘something else’ as the reason for the check.  The sharecode will be a mixture of letters and numbers, commencing with S.

Asylum Seekers

In order to register, you will need to show an Application Registration Card (ARC) and a copy of the most recent correspondence from UKVI regarding your application.  If you are subject to Immigration Bail, you will need to provide your most recent Bail 201 form to show that you are not prohibited from studying. It is likely that we will need to check your status on a monthly basis and you must keep us informed of any changes to your circumstances.
