Staying on track
There are a number of things, besides passing your degree, which could improve your career prospects. At Loughborough University we’re proud to say that 94% of Loughborough graduates are in employment or further education just 6 months after graduating.
Start thinking about your career now
Sit down and think about what you want to do in terms of your career. Start thinking about it now and you can plan relevant work experience and placements. Give yourself time to try lots of relevant career paths so that you provide yourself with the best opportunity to succeed in a career which you do want to pursue.
Loughborough’s Careers Network was rated no1 internationally in 2013 (International Student Barometer). Come and see how we can help you.
Prospective employers prefer graduates who have undertaken a placement year to those who haven’t. This is due to the enhanced skill-set and experience gained. At Loughborough every course provides our students with the option to go on a placement year.
Another great way to earn experience, expand your skill-set and set yourself apart from other applicants is to study abroad. It shows that you are outgoing and prepared to try new experiences, even if they push you out of your comfort zone.
The Erasmus Impact Study confirmed that five years after graduating the unemployment rate of Erasmus students was 23% lower than those who have not trained or studied abroad.
Expand your network
During your time here you’ll meet lots of new and interesting people from all walks of life. We recommend joining as many clubs and societies as possible, expanding your network not only makes your time with us more fulfilling but it also means that life after university might prove more fruitful. It’s not just about what you know, but who you know.
Develop your experience
Over summer, try and organise work experience or internships. This is the perfect time to start gaining that all-important experience within a relevant industry which will set you apart.
Having an edge over other graduates later on down the line will make it easier for you to get a job within a relevant industry.
As you can see, Loughborough University is a great place to learn and to develop those all-important skills which you will need later on in life.
