Ffyona Baker

Ffyona Baker is the Deputy Chief Operating Officer.

Ffyona has been the full-time Deputy Chief Operating Officer since January 2024, having joined the University in 2019 as the Director of Organisational Development (OD), taking on a broader role in 2021 to include Strategic Change, and then a wider portfolio in 2022 as the Associate Chief Operating Officer.

In addition to deputising for the Chief Operating Officer, Ffyona’s portfolio includes strategic leadership for People & Culture, and line management of a range of services including Organisational Development & Strategic Change, Human Resources, Health, Safety & Wellbeing, Technician Commitment, Legal Services, and the University Library. Ffyona also has dotted line responsibility for the Heads of Operations across the nine schools.

With over 25 years’ experience working in transformation, strategy, and people & culture related roles, Ffyona’s experience has been gained from across a range of sectors including the private sector, not-for-profit, Local Government, Further and Higher Education. Ffyona has held Executive level OD, HR, People & Culture related positions, and has led the support for the delivery of significant transformation programmes.

Ffyona has been a Chartered Member of the CIPD for over 25 years, and is both Prince2 and MSP qualified, additionally Ffyona has a range of HR/OD related qualifications and accreditations, and an MBA with specialism in Knowledge Management.  

Other than a year spent living in Canada at the age of eight, Ffyona grew up in Essex and started her career in London before moving to Warwickshire and then the East Midlands.

Ffyona is a member of the University Executive Board, and reports to the Chief Operating Officer.

Ffyona has responsibility for the People & Culture, and Strategic Change Portfolios, in addition line management of the following teams and services:

  • Organisational Development & Change
  • Human Resources
  • Health, Safety & Wellbeing
  • Legal Services
  • University Library
  • Technician Commitment

Ffyona also provides support through dotted line responsibility to the Heads of Operations across the nine schools.
