The following sections provide further information about relocating to Loughborough.

Relocation

If you are relocating from outside a 20 mile radius in order to take up a new appointment at Loughborough University you may be able to claim relocation expenses which will provide partial assistance for your move.

There is a detailed list of general conditions applicable to all removals along with an additional section for overseas removals on the Human Resources website.

Accommodation

The University’s Student Accommodation Centre can provide advice and information to staff relocating to Loughborough and may (subject to availability) be able to provide short term temporary accommodation while you are house-hunting. Childcare

Pre-School Care

Loughborough Campus Nursery is a registered day nursery providing childcare for the children of staff, students and the community.

Owned by the Students' Union, the nursery is based on campus and is run by staff qualified in childcare and education. They are able to offer a limited number of subsidised places to university staff. The nursery always receives a good Ofsted report and places are highly sought after, therefore you are advised to contact them as soon as possible.

The nursery is open from 8am to 6pm all year round with the exception of the following closure periods: Good Friday, Easter Monday and Tuesday, two May Bank Holidays, Bank Holiday Monday and Tuesday in August and two weeks over Christmas.

For more information see the Nursery web page or contact the Nursery Manager on 01509 234 126 or email them direct

In addition Leicestershire County Council, Early Years and Childcare Service has comprehensive information on childcare provision from newborn to age16+.

School-Aged Children

Children in the UK start primary school in the September following their fourth birthday. They then move to secondary school in the September following their eleventh birthday. Further information on schools in the local area is available from the Leicestershire County Council website. This website also provides information on child care provision for before and after school.

You do not have to pay fees to send your children to school, although there are some private education providers available in the local area. These can also be known as ‘public’ or ‘independent’ schools.

During the school holidays, the University provides subsidised placed on local holiday clubs and schemes.
