Useful information and links for current Mature Students
All students are individuals, with their own particular circumstances and career plans. However, there may be specific considerations that mature students have to take into account when thinking about their future. Consequently, it's useful to see a careers adviser early on in your time at university in order to discuss your situation, and remember you don't have to know at this point what you want to do after university in order to see them. Details on how to book an appointment can be found in our Getting Advice section, alternatively call into the Herbert Manzoni Building to visit us.
Before you use our Career and Employability Centre services why not think about some of the key issues you may need to consider for the future:
- Do you want to go straight into employment, or undertake some further study first?
- Do you need to work in a specific geographical area (i.e. "stay local")? If so, you may also need labour market information related to the industry sector you want to enter.
- Are you considering setting up your own business?
- What value can your past work experience add to your applications?
- How can you develop ‘Employability Skills’ to enhance your chances of securing work?
- Do you want to use the subject content of your degree in the future?
- What are your own personal goals?
- How does one start researching careers?
- What can I put in my CV?
Many of the above considerations apply to all students, whatever their age or situation, but you may find it useful to use the Careers and Employability Centre website and also register in order to access a variety of online services. Also, take a look at the useful sections below for further information on some of the key issues mentioned above:
