Careers and Employability Centre

Fairs

The Careers and Employability Centre runs 3 fairs over the course of the academic year.

There are a number of other fairs external to the Unversity and these will be advertised on the Off-Campus Events section of the website.

The Careers and Employability Centre has put together some advice on making the most of your careers fair.

Graduate Recruitment and Placement Fair

The most recent Graduate Recruitment and Placement Fair took place on Tuesday 25th October 2011.  The event was a great success and is now the largest of its kind in the UK.

140 organisations attended the fair and they included top graduate recruiters, postgraduate study opportunities and business advice agencies.

The next Graduate Recruitment and Placement Fair will be held on Tuesday 23rd October 2012 from 11am to 4pm in the Sir David Wallace Sports Hall. Further details will be posted on here from the beginning of the next academic year.

Spring Graduate Recruitment and Placement Fair 2012

The last Spring Graduate Recruitment and Placement Fair took place on Tuesday 6th March 2012.

There were 70 exhibitors attending, including top graduate recruiters, postgraduate study opportunities as well as teaching and accountancy organisations.

The fair was a great opportunity for students and graduates from all disciplines to meet employers in a relaxed and friendly environment. As well as the organisations attending the fair there waslots more happening: Careers Advisers were available to offer on-the-spot advice and guidance or refer students for a longer appointments if necessary. Information staff were on hand to identify resources, answer enquiries and explain how the Centre can help after graduation.

Springboard..."A Different Careers Fair" 2012

The Springboard Fair took place on Wednesday 2nd May 2012 in the James France Exhibition Centre.

This is a very different and exciting careers fair. We invite a range of organisations to give you access to information, advice and opportunities in sectors ranging from art and design to sport.

At the last fair the following areas were covered: education; art and design; music; voluntary and charity work; starting your own business; skills in enterprise; marketing; media; law; journalism and broadcasting; postgraduate study and research; projects in industry; sport; placements and opportunities abroad.

Getting the most out of the fairs

You will get the most out of the fairs if you have done some homework, but if you haven’t then use this opportunity to do some research, by speaking to the organisations that interest you. Make a good impression by being polite, looking presentable and if you have copies of your CV with you to hand to recruiters, so much the better.

If you’ve got some background information this will mean your conversations will be much better informed and any questions you have will be more focused which makes a much better impression than a vague enquiry. The Careers and Employability Centre is open all day so you can check out the employer information files or use the web to find out more about the exhibitors at the fair.

Don’t just look at the stalls and pick up the brochures or free gifts, speak to the representatives on the stands to find out whether you would fit in or if the organisation is right for you.
