Background

Masoud holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Yazd University, Iran (2018). He joined Loughborough University as a Research Associate in "Sensing and Perception for Industrial Robotics" in 2022 and concurrently served as a Teaching Fellow in "Robotics and Automation." Prior to his tenure at Loughborough, he worked as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Sirjan University of Technology, Sirjan, Iran, from 2017 to 2019 and again from 2021 to 2022.  

Previously, Masoud contributed as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at the City University of London, specializing in "Planetary Robotics Navigation and Decision Making" on the Horizon 2020 EU-funded project (PRO-ACT project) from 2019 to 2021. Additionally, he served as a Research Assistant at the Autonomous and Intelligence Systems Laboratory (AISL), Simon Fraser University, Canada, from 2016 to 2017. 

Masoud's extensive academic and research journey is marked by his diverse roles and contributions. His current research interests encompass Human-Robot Collaboration, Autonomous Robot Navigation, Cooperative VSLAM/VO, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Self-driving Cars, Mechanism Design, and Control Systems.

Past Research

  • Horizon 2020 PRO-ACT: to develop and demonstrate cooperation and manipulation capabilities between three robots for assembling an in-situ resource utilisation (ISRU) plant. Vision-based algorithms were developed for the navigation and control of planetary cooperative robots, which involves theoretical developments, programming in real-time, and testing them on real planetary robotics platforms available at the consortium partners’ facilities.
