Led by the pioneers of the digital decarbonisation movement, Professors Tom Jackson and Ian Hodgkinson, the cluster will bring together academic researchers across the University and will host five fully funded PhD studentships as Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarships, starting in October 2024.
The transdisciplinary cluster will pave the way for a paradigm shift in how we approach digital practices and tools, and their impact on the planet – enabling future solutions where technology, environmental stewardship and user well-being converge to help meet net zero by 2050.
Doctoral researchers will embark on a set of interconnected projects aimed at transforming the digital ecosystem across multiple levels: micro (individuals, groups and teams), meso (organisations, networks and stakeholder groups), and macro (societal norms and beliefs, industry and policy).
The five fully funded PhD studentships will work in partnership with industry collaborators and cover a range of topics and contexts including:
- The impact of new technologies adoption on creative industries production
- Public service design in the age of digitalisation
- Lifelong learning and shareable models
- Systems storytelling of digital decarbonisation
- The impact of digital decarbonisation on physical and mental health
Applications will open in April 2024, with studentships commencing from October 2024.
