Application questions

How do I check entry requirements if my country is not listed?

We have an extensive list of entry requirements. If your country or particular qualifications are not listed, please contact our undergraduate or postgraduate admissions teams who will be happy to advise you on your specific portfolio of qualifications and whether this is acceptable for entry on to your chosen course.

I have overseas qualifications, can I still study in the UK?

Yes! We accept a huge range of qualifications here at Loughborough. Take a look at our full list of accepted international qualifications for more details.

I have not taken an IELTS exam yet, will this affect my application?

No, you can still apply to us, if you have not yet obtained your English language qualification. If you are made an offer of a place, then it will be included as a condition of the offer.

The standard University IELTS English language requirements is 6.5 overall with 6.0 in each individual element (reading, writing, listening and speaking). Some departments may require higher levels English language. The University accepts a wide range of English Language qualifications.

If you do not meet our IELTS requirement, Loughborough University offers a number of pre-sessional English language programmes.

Can I apply for more than one university or course in the UK?

Yes. For undergraduate courses, you can apply for up to 5 different courses at up to 5 different universities through UCAS.

For postgraduate study, you apply directly to the universities you choose. You can apply to Loughborough online for both taught and research courses.

You can apply for as many courses as you want, but we strongly recommend you check the prospectus first to make sure you meet the entry requirements, so you don’t waste your time.

How much are the tuition fees to study at Loughborough University?

Our tuition fees vary between courses, level of study and which campus you study at. All fees are listed on the course details.

When should I apply?

For undergraduate courses, you can apply from 1 September in the year before you wish to start your studies.  The UCAS application deadline for 2023 starters is January 25th 2023. Late applications can only be considered if places are still available on the course you are interested in.

For postgraduate taught courses, the date is much more flexible, and you can apply until 6 September in the year you wish to begin your studies.  However, as some courses are very popular and places may be limited, we recommend you apply as early as possible to avoid disappointment. For postgraduate research, there are opportunities throughout the year to apply.

How do I apply?

We like to make applying to Loughborough as easy as possible.

For undergraduate courses, you will need to apply through UCAS. Our institution name is LBRO and our institution code is L79. The course code will depend on the degree that you are applying for.

Applications for both masters or research degrees are made directly to Loughborough University via our Application Portal.

What happens after I’ve applied?

Once you've applied, you will receive an acknowledgement email advising you that we have your application. More information may be requested from you in order to process your application, so please keep checking your email.

When a decision is made on your application, you will be informed by email if the University is able to make you an offer.  If you are applying for an undergraduate course, you can check this decision on UCAS Track.

If you are applying for a postgraduate course, you can check this decision on the Application Portal.

How long does it take to receive a response from my application?

We consider each application carefully and on an individual basis. Response time to applications will therefore vary. Undergraduate course applications normally take around 3-4 weeks, but it can take longer or be much quicker.

If you are applying for an undergraduate course and you have applied by the 25th January deadline, we will aim to have made a decision on your application by the end of March.

If you are applying for a masters course we will aim to reach a decision within two to four weeks, although if your chosen programme requires a portfolio, it may take a bit longer for this to be assessed.  You can help us with this by including as much information with your application as possible.

If you are concerned about your application, you can contact us at international@lboro.ac.uk and we can look into the progress for you.

Can I change my course if I want to?

If you have applied for an undergraduate course, and change your mind during the application process, please email the Admissions Office including your full name and UCAS Personal ID Number, to ask if it would be possible to change your course. We would want to know which course you want to change to, including the course code, and why. We can then consider your request and let you know if we are able to make the change.

If you have applied for a masters course and wish to change course, please e-mail pgtaught@lboro.ac.uk with the same information.

For any queries about research degrees, please e-mail p.g.research@mailbox.lboro.ac.uk.
