The Senate

1.

The Senate consists of ex-officio members, and members appointed, elected and co-opted from the academic staff and from the student body in accordance with, and for periods specified by, Ordinance IX (The Senate).

The Senate has responsibility for regulating and directing the academic work of the University in teaching, research and the academic aspects of enterprise, and for promoting the student experience, subject to the University’s Statutes and Ordinances. Full details of Senate’s powers and functions are contained in Ordinance IX (The Senate).

Note: Amendments allowed by the Privy Council on 30 December 1974 and 7 April 1982 are embodied in the Statutes, and are indicated by *.

Modifications made by the University Commissioners and allowed by the Privy Council on 17 November 1992 are incorporated and are indicated by †.
