Fifty new students form Opportunity Scholar cohort for 2023

It is thanks to the generosity of our donors that we can provide support to students on our Opportunity Scholarships programme at Loughborough University.

Each year, the University receives applications for scholarships from students who are from low socioeconomic backgrounds and areas of the UK where there is a low uptake in higher education.

Last year just over 50 were awarded and thanks to the support of individuals, groups of alumni and organisations, a further 51 have been awarded this year.

Scholars each receive £3,000 per year for three years of study.

The scholarships have a huge impact on the student recipients – and we currently have over 150 students with Opportunity Scholarships at Loughborough.

Our newest cohort began their studies with us in October and 60% of these new scholars are from households with an income of less than £18,000 per year.

The support provided to the students as part of this programme can have a real impact on their student experience, enabling them to get involved with more activities, focus on studies, and worry less about their financial situation.

At the moment, we are asking you to support us in growing this brilliant programme, so that we can help even more students with an Opportunity Scholarship starting in the academic year in 2024.

You can find out more about Opportunity Scholarships and how you can donate – at a level of your choice – on our webpages. Thank you.
