Mental Health Support Team

The Mental Health Support Team is here to support students experiencing mental health difficulties, provide advice and information on mental health issues, and advise staff about appropriate practical or pastoral support.

If you are a student of the University who is facing barriers that affect your ability to study - due to emotional burden or mental health difficulties - then we may be able to help. If you are a member of staff or colleague supporting a student experiencing mental health difficulties, we are also here to offer you advice.

Mental health and well-being is concerned with how we think, feel and act and is integral to our overall health. Approximately 1 in 4 people will consult their GP about a mental health-related difficulty every year.

The emphasis of the support we provide is on working with students experiencing mental health difficulties to develop practical support and strategies to enable them to deal with the obstacles encountered to their academic progression. Find out more about our work using the tabs below.  Members of the Team are active participants in the University Mental Health Advisers Network (UMHAN) which aims to share good practice and influence developments across the sector. Students and staff may find further information on the UMHAN website of interest.

The Team work in partnership with mental health provision within Leicestershire. Details of some of these key agencies can be accessed from their websites:
