Counselling Service

D2311-60

Welcome to the Counselling Service

The Counselling Service is available to all students and members of staff and offers an opportunity to talk and reflect with a professionally trained person who is outside your immediate situation.

For information on our assessment and ongoing waiting times please follow the links for students or staff below.

Please be aware that we have a communal waiting area.

We are a well-established and experienced team of counsellors who are dedicated to short term counselling, for emotional or psychological problems that are affecting your studies or work.

Initial Consultation

Your consultation will last between 30 and 50 minutes. The time will be used to discuss your situation in more depth to help you gain a clearer understanding of what has been happening and to think about some strategies that might help. Your counsellor may also suggest some self-help resources, that are relevant to you, and provide you with information about other local services.

Many people find that a single counselling consultation will give them the encouragement and insight they need to get on with their lives without further help. in some cases, however, the counsellor may suggest a short course of sessions.

Counselling does not provide advice in respect to academic work; housing or financial difficulties as there are specific departments to help you with these issues.
