Get into Teaching
The NCTL provides a service which encourages second year undergraduates and career changers who want to teach a priority subject but are not ready to apply this recruitment year.
This project aims to increase the chances of prospective candidates choosing teaching and provide them with support to plan their ITT application in advance so they are in a position to make prompt well prepared ITT applications when it is time to submit an application.
The NCTL have recruited 3 specialist advisers who will provide a dedicated one-to-one support service to help and support candidates with their application journey. Advisers will advise and guide potential applicants in areas such as gaining school experience, information about different training routes available, directing to relevant events and helping with application tips.
To access this service, please register with the Get into Teaching site.
The skills tests for prospective teachers assess the core skills that teachers need to fulfil their professional role in schools, rather than the subject knowledge needed for teaching. This is to ensure all teachers are competent in numeracy and literacy, regardless of their specialism.
All current and prospective trainee teachers must pass the skills tests in numeracy and literacy before they can be recommended for the award of qualified teacher status (QTS).
If you would like to contact someone regarding Skills Tests, please contact the learndirect helpdesk (0300 303 9613) which is available from Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm. Or email: firstname.lastname@example.org or go to their website learndirect.com
In addition, the NCTL have compiled a list of helpful tips for applicants who are booking their professional skills tests, available here.
