Ranked 1st for sport-related academia
Loughborough has been named the best sporting university in the world in the global QS higher education league table. 2017 marks the first time the annual QS World University Rankings by Subject have included a list of the world’s best places to study sports-related subjects and Loughborough has topped the table, ranking joint-first with the University of Sydney, Australia.
The new sport ranking is based on surveying academic staff that declare a speciality in the subject, and employers who seek to employ graduates that specialize in the discipline. It is also based on research output and impact, with both citations and paper output measured over a five-year period.
Loughborough's first place ranking further cements the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences' reputation as an internationally recognised centre of excellence for the study of sport, exercise and health through the natural and social sciences.

A unique sporting university
The School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences is just one part of Loughborough University's long sporting heritage that continues to provide unrivalled sporting opportunities for students.
The University has twice been named University of the Year for Sport by The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide, first in the inaugural year of the title and again in 2017, winning in honour of its unparalleled role in the triumph of the British Olympic and Paralympic teams in Rio. The University was proud to serve as the Official Preparation Camp Headquarters for Team GB prior to the London 2012 Olympic Games. The new National Centre for Sport and Exercise Medicine (East Midlands) is now based on campus as part of an Olympic legacy project to deliver education, research and clinical services.
