I came to Loughborough through the Loughborough-China Materials Partnership Programme to do an MSc in the Department of Materials after having studied Materials Science and Engineering in my home city at the Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (BUAA).

Because I had such a good experience as a Masters student I decided to stay on to pursue a PhD at Loughborough. My PhD project is joint with the Materials Department and Wolfson School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering. The focus of the project is the development of additive manufacturing technologies to allow the efficient production of electronic substrates and interconnects. The novel technology developed may have significant implications for the processing of interconnects in solar panels and plastic/flexible electronics.

I have received a great deal of support with my PhD from the staff in both departments. Although I have faced some challenges in my research, with my supervisor’s help, I was able to overcome them. I enjoy being part of a research group – there is a really ‘positive’ working environment and it’s great to feel part of a team.
