Evans Mogire

I did my Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical-Textile Engineering at Moi University in Kenya before coming to Loughborough to study for an MSc. The decision to stay on after that to pursue a PhD really was a no brainer. During my Masters degree I had the opportunity to interact with world leading researchers in surface science, metallurgy and polymers. I was impressed so much with the quality of research conducted and the backgrounds of the academic staff I just had to get a PhD position within the Department. I also had the chance to apply for funding for through the Department, without which I would not have been able to finance my PhD.

My PhD project investigates the effects of higher operational temperatures on the oxidation phenomena occurring in boiler piping found in coal fired power plants. The aim is to provide an understanding of the mechanisms of oxide growth and the associated microstructural changes that occur as higher operational temperatures are used to improve thermal efficiency

My experience as a postgraduate research student at Loughborough has been very fulfilling. The support I get from both the academic and technical staff is absolutely fantastic. I also enjoy the international ambience offered in the Department which has given me an appreciation of different cultures, as well as the opportunity to make friends from across the world.
