Aravind Mullath

I did my Bachelors Degree in Polymer Technology at Amrita University which is in my home city of Coimbatore in India. I then came to the UK to do an MSc and after working in the R&D Department for Kraft Foods, I decided to do a PhD at Loughborough University. Loughborough’s close links with industry and state-of-the-art facilities were a big pull and the Materials Department were offering a PhD opportunity in my particular area of interest.

My PhD is focussed on process simulation and the investigation of the functional properties of injection moulded hinges used in packaging applications. This study is aimed at identifying interrelationships between polymer characteristics, in-cavity flow, microstructure development and hinge properties, in order to produce hinges with enhanced functional properties.

My experience as a PhD student at Loughborough has been brilliant. My supervisor is very supportive and approachable. Also, being a die-hard cricket fan, the excellent cricket facilities available on campus have been an added bonus and keep me energised amidst a busy work schedule!
