LCMP Student

I came to Loughborough from China through LCMP (Loughborough China Materials Programme.)  I completed a three year programme at Tongji University before coming here to do Materials and English and I will be going on to complete an MSc in Materials Engineering in September 2014.

This was the first opportunity to study abroad that I received along with an offer of financial support and so I was very excited at the thought of coming here.  Outside of the programme, Loughborough is famous for sports, even in China, and I enjoy swimming, so coming here was ideal!

The thing that I enjoy most about my course is that, with support from my supervisor, I am able to use the laboratories to conduct experiments.  The facilities here are great and I have been able to study ceramics, which I was unable to do in China.

We are made to feel really welcome here – when we first arrived, we had a social event in the department with dancing, fish and chips and games, which helped us all to get to know each other.  I also get involved in international student activities throughout the year, swim and run in my spare time and spend time with friends from many cultures.

In the future, I hope to go into industry, working in a Materials related subject area, possibly on the experimental side – I enjoy working with different equipment and skilled technicians.   Eventually I hope to be a Materials Engineer, working with composites if I get the opportunity.  At the moment, I am not sure whether to do this in China or the UK, but I may try both.

It really is worth coming to Loughborough University to study – you will learn lots of things and make a lot of friends!  I have made friends with people from many cultures.  Students from the UK seem to want to party every day, which I like to do now and then, but I need my energy to study and prefer it to be quiet.  The University campus is big, beautiful and quiet most of the time, which is great for studying.
