An open problem in birational geometry is the study and classification of Mori Dream Spaces. These have many nice combinatorial properties, such as finitely generated cones of effective, movable, and nef divisors. I describe a method used to compute the effective cones of certain blown-up spaces and give a geometric explanation for some classes of divisors that arise from this method. Joint with Elisa Postinghel and Artie Prendergast-Smith.
