Profile

I am an academic general practitioner, completing my PhD on the Leicestershire Healthcare Inequalities Improvement Doctoral Training Programme. My work focuses on obesity-related inequality, particularly concerning morbidity and weight management services. This is funded by the Welcome Trust and I will be studying within the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Science at Loughborough University.

My research journey started with a research scholarship at Newcastle University during my undergraduate medical degree, where I researched a novel approach to anatomy education. I then undertook my Master of Public Health at the University of Edinburgh. I have subsequently been situated in the health organisation, policy and economics research group at the University of Manchester (UoM), where I have completed an Academic Clinic Fellowship followed by a School of Primary Care Research fellowship. I used my time at the UoM to undertake training in health policy, economics and clinical data science as well as researching healthcare funding, primary care networks, the primary care workforce, general practice closures and private general practice.

My passion is improving patient care and addressing inequalities through policy interventions, and I am excited to focus this work on obesity and weight management. Obesity impacts the lives of many patients, often with stark inequalities between communities. I look forward to contributing to this evidence base and improving policy as we pivot to prevention.
