Description

The FlexiFit Mat is a low-cost, DIY training mat designed for people with motor and coordination challenges. Its unique selling point is that anyone can build it at home using easy-to-find, affordable materials. The mat is modular, foldable, and reconfigurable, which means users can adjust its shape like a foldable iPad case for different training needs, and it can be disassembled easily to store at home.

Unlike expensive sports training systems, the FlexiFit Mat costs around £44 to make. It also allows users to integrate simple electronic components, like pressure buttons, with no soldering required.

To make it, users assemble foam jigsaw tiles, plywood, and Velcro strips to create the foldable base. They then cut small holes on the tiles to install pressure sensors, connect the sensors to a microcontroller with plug-in wires, and cover the wiring neatly with adhesive sheets or tape. The result is a versatile, safe, and easy-to-use product for home or community use.
