Background

Boccia England is proud to represent the most inclusive sport in the world and to responsible for supporting and developing that sport in England.

Boccia is a Paralympic sport with no Olympic equivalent. It is a target sport played seated, with the aim being to get your balls (either red or blue) closest to the target white jack ball. A match is played between either two individuals, two pairs or two teams of three.

At its heart boccia is a sport for people with physical impairments. Whilst throwing, rolling or kicking are permitted ways of projecting the balls into court, many players use a ramp and a head pointer in order to play.

Need

Equipment to enable these players to play is frequently expensive, heavy and difficult to manufacture. We are seeing innovative ways of reducing the cost of product purchase for players through alternative manufacturing and materials, as well as making equipment lighter weight, portable, more sustainable, and easy to store.

We would particularly welcome ideas to support innovative training for ramp-users and methods of ball retrieval to support greater independence in training and play for power chair users.
