The UK Aid (FCDO) funded Modern Energy Cooking Services (MECS) programme had a strong presence at London Climate Action Week 2025, emphasising the critical importance of accelerating access to clean, electric cooking to drive progress in improving air quality.

Professor Ed Brown (MECS Research Director and Director of STEER, Loughborough University) was active across events during the week including a high level strategy session on super pollutants held at the House of Lords on 24 June (watch the session) and a reception at FCDO on the same topic on 26 June where Ministers Miliband and McCarthy reaffirmed the UK’s commitments to addressing short-lived pollutants.

Ed also spoke at a panel hosted by the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) and Clean Air Fund (CAF) on Regional Cooperation on Air Pollution in Africa and the Africa Clean Air Programme on 25 June. The event formed part of a day of sessions co-organised by CCAC and CAF to drive action on super pollutants for London Climate Action Week. MECS is proud to collaborate with CCAC and emphasise the importance of advancing access to clean, electric cooking to drive progress in reducing air pollution and associated health and climate impacts.
