Fellowships

Working jointly with Cara - UK's Council for At-Risk Academics - Loughborough University periodically offers a small number of internally funded research Fellowships for at-risk academics. These positions are advertised via the University vacancies site and other means as appropriate.  

The designated Fellowships for at-risk academics are typically for post-doctoral level candidates and last for either one or two years. Applicants are assessed for their suitability based on their academic profile and criteria related to the impact of discrimination, persecution, violence or conflict on their lives. Recent support has been offered to academics and their families from Ukraine, Syria and Turkey.  

Loughborough University also strongly encourages at-risk academics within three years of their PhD (or other doctoral qualification) to apply for the internally funded Vice-Chancellor Independent Research Fellowship. These are advertised on an annual basis and include one ring-fenced position for a suitably qualified at-risk candidate. Appointment to this position will be based on criteria for at-risk academics, as well other criteria as outlined in the annual Call. 

In addition, Loughborough also welcomes at-risk applicants who want to pursue suitable externally funded fellowships, including both regular externally awarded fellowships and designated fellowships for at-risk academics, such as those provided periodically by the British Academy, the Gerda Henkel Foundation or as part of the Marie Curie-Sklodowska Actions.
