Dose enhancement for radiotherapy
Establishing the best combination of X-ray spectra and metal concentration to maximise dose enhancement.
Maximising the effectiveness of radiation therapy is a key research priority.
One of our goals is to use X-rays in combination with metal-based compounds to amplify the local dose deposition on a tumour.
Being already widely used in imaging as contrast agents, they have the unique property to absorb significantly more radiation than soft tissues due to their high density and atomic number.
One of our current research goals is to determine the best combination of X-ray spectra and metal concentration to maximise dose enhancement.
