CUWiP+ is a three-day conference bringing together undergraduates who identify as women or non-binary. The aim is to support them on their physics journey, encouraging them to remain in the physics field by connecting, meeting inspirational women working in the physics sector, and increasing confidence to apply for postgraduate studies or starting a career in physics.
This year the conference was held at the University of Warwick, and Jenny Spiga was invited to present her career path and research in medical physics with a talk entitled: 'Exploring Microbeam Radiation Therapy: a research journey in medical physics'.
On the event, Jenny says: "It's been great to have this opportunity. CUWiP+ is all about supporting and uplifting students in physics, and being part of that as a speaker was incredibly meaningful. I had the chance to talk about my journey in medical physics, particularly in the field of Microbeam Radiation Therapy, and share how our research can directly impact patient lives, which is something I'm really passionate about. There were so many great questions afterward, not just about the science itself, but also about career paths, applying to the NHS, and what it's really like working as a clinical scientist. It was clear that there’s a need for connection in this field, and I was grateful to help bridge some of those gaps.”
Next year this conference will be held at the University of Birmingham, and, if you are eligible, you can find details on how to apply in the link below.
