Loughborough University will be hosting a dedicated Sustainability Week (16-20 March) for staff and students, where you can learn more about your role in helping to create a more sustainable future.
During this week, experts from our community and beyond will be hosting a variety of events designed to teach others about the sustainable practices in and around Loughborough, as well as the research taking place that offers promising solutions for the world.
Whether you enjoy getting out into nature, learning more about our planet or discovering the opportunities on offer at our campuses, there’s something for everyone.
Sustainability Week Events
Climate Fresk Workshop
Clean our canals with the Canal & River Trust
Loughborough's canals are not only spaces supporting human wellbeing and connection with nature, but are also vital habitats to a range of wildlife. Give back to the Loughborough Canal through this volunteering session with the Canal & River Trust as we work together to revitalise Loughborough's canal banks. We'll be removing waste from the river banks, repairing stonework, cutting back overgrowth and removing graffiti, helping to restore these much-loved local spaces.
Sustainability Leadership Workshop
In this interactive session, we'll develop our sustainability skills and explore how to apply our unique skillset, interests and experiences to enter a purpose-led green job and embed sustainability into our future career.
We'll develop sustainability skills that are desired by employers, like systems thinking, communication, and leadership. Altogether, we will identify how to enter an effective and fulfilling job in the green transition, contribute to a future we wish to see, and gain a certificate to showcase these skills to future employers.
Book Swap
To take part in the Book Swap, you just need to bring along a book or two to swap. If you bring more than two, we will donate some of the books to charity and to Pilkington Library.
Climate Justice Workshop: Who bears the brunt of climate change, and what can we do about it?
In this interactive workshop, we’ll explore how climate change affects people and communities differently and why this matters for building a fairer, more sustainable future. Through discussion and activities, we’ll look at how factors like race, gender and social background can influence who is most impacted and how we can take action for climate justice.
Please note: We'll touch on sensitive topics such as colonialism, racism and discrimination, so some discussions may be challenging.
