University holds Inaugural Donors and Scholars reception

Scholarship donors were invited to the reception to meet with the students who have benefited from their gifts.

Scholarships are instrumental in enabling students to study at Loughborough and benefit from the outstanding teaching and facilities on campus.

 The Scholarships represented were:

  • Development Trust Scholarships
  • Sport Scholarships
  • Water, Engineering and Development Centre (WEDC) Scholarships
  • The John Pickford Scholarship
  • Ford Blue Oval Scholarships

Scholarships such as the Sport Scholarships support elite athletes from a range of sports including Athletics, Hockey and Football.

The John Pickford Scholarship was named after the founder of WEDC. This fund provides support for students from low- and middle-income countries to study with WEDC.

Development Trust and Sports Scholar, Sabrina Bakare, commented:

“As a recipient of both a Development Trust Scholarship as well as a Sport Scholarship, I am ever so grateful and I cannot stress enough how appreciative my family and I are for the support I have received since starting at Loughborough. My university life really would have not been the way it is without the generosity of you donors.”

Vice Chancellor, Robert Allison, adds:

“It was a great pleasure to host the Inaugural Donors and Scholars Reception last night and celebrate the support our students receive in the form of Scholarships. The importance of Scholarships cannot be underestimated; in the last academic year alone, the generosity of our alumni, staff and friends of the University has enabled more than 200 gifted students to come to Loughborough and fully embrace higher education.

“I was delighted to have the opportunity to introduce donors to the scholars that have personally benefitted from their gifts. I would like to thank all our donors and everyone who attended last night for making our first Donors and Scholars Reception such a successful event.”
