The longest climb of Mt Everest in history with Mitch Hutchcraft

A person with messy hair wearing sunglasses and a blue anorak

In May 2025, ex-Marine Mitch Hutchcraft completed a 13,157km 237 day human powered journey from Dover to the summit of Mount Everest, shattering multiple world records along the way. His journey involved swimming the English Channel, then cycling across 18 countries from France to India before a 1300km run, hike and climb from sea level to the summit of Mount Everest.

In preparation for his expedition, Mitch worked and trained with us here at Loughborough University and now, as part of his nationwide book and speaking tour, is coming back to share his story of adventure, resilience and the ultimate power of mindset. His talk delves into the 9 simple lessons he used to navigate adversity in life and in his record-breaking expeditions across the globe and how you don’t need to be superhuman to achieve the ‘impossible’. That you alone define what possible means and that the most extraordinary journeys often start from the most ordinary of beginnings.

His book ‘Limitless: 9 Pillars to Unlock Extraordinary Human Potential’ will be released this May, with a documentary following shortly afterwards.
