Turbo-Discharging nominated for a 2degrees Champions Award

Turbo-Discharging – the technology developed by an EPSRC / Innovate UK funded project led by Loughborough University’s Dr Andy Williams (School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering) – is amongst the entries for the 2degrees Champions Awards 2015.

Turbo-Discharging is a patented, novel approach to using internal combustion engine air systems to improve fuel economy, reduce engine CO2 emissions and simultaneously increase engine torque.

The technology is at the heart of the VeriVert development programme which is exploring ways to make existing and new heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems more efficient.

The development of the technology has multiple impacts. It has employed engineers and with rollout – estimated to be within the coming 12-18 months – will create over 500 jobs. It will reduce household energy requirements, and support the drive to meet Horizon 2020 targets for carbon reduction in commercial buildings.

The work was amongst the University’s Enterprise Awards winners in 2014, scooping the Intellectual Property prize in recognition of its successful partnership with AltEnergis. The collaboration is driving the research from lab to market as a practical and cost-effective solution to vehicle and building sustainability.

To ensure that Turbo-Discharging is amongst the 2degrees Champions, cast your vote before Monday 27 April.
