We continue to make significant steps towards being a proactively equitable, diverse and inclusive University.  At Loughborough, the Deans of our Academic Schools are central to the success of the University, leading our staff, inspiring our students, and shaping the University. 

Our Wolfson School of Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering (Wolfson) is home to a warm and vibrant academic community of 100 academic staff, ~1,100 taught students, of whom most are undergraduates, ~50 post-doctoral researchers and ~90 PhD students, supported by ~60 members of professional services and technical staff.

The constituent disciplines all deliver high quality teaching and impactful research. Mechanical Engineering and Manufacturing were both 9th in the Times Good University Guide 2024, with Mechanical Engineering also 5th in The Guardian in 2024 and the School’s degree programmes score highly consistently in the National Student Survey. The disciplines of Mechanical, Aeronautical and Manufacturing Engineering rank in the top 100 in the world in the QS World University Rankings by Subject Area 2024.

Wolfson has particular strengths in the areas of renewable energy solutions, especially within the Centre for Renewable Energy Systems Technology and its work on next-generation photovoltaics, engineering hydrogen net-zero and its initiative Aftrak, which aims to bring affordable green energy and food security to communities across Africa. Other research groups explore Connected Infrastructure (model-based systems engineering, wireless communications and signal processing), Sports Engineering and Human Factors (safety & protection, playing  surfaces and inclusive design), Advanced & Digital Manufacturing (metrology and measurement, intelligent automation, circular economy and sustainability) and Systems Engineering.

At Loughborough, the Deans of our Academic Schools are central to the success of the University, leading our staff, inspiring our students, and shaping the University.

As Dean you will join our university’s leadership team and play a pivotal role as a member of the University Executive Board, contributing to the strategic direction and leadership of the university at the highest level. You will lead a School with impactful, world-leading high-quality research, and intensive industrial and international collaboration.
