Building on our strong interdisciplinary research in sustainable aviation, energy, and climate resilience, we’re seeking experts in the following focus areas:

Sustainable aviation

Advance net zero aviation research and support activity in the National Centre for Combustion Aerothermal Technology, involving both modelling and experimental approaches.

Cleaner propulsion technology

Help us strengthen our collaborations with industry partners to advance net zero propulsion, renewable and alternative fuels and sustainable powertrain systems.

Structural composites

Applications of structural composites in wind turbine technology, hydrogen storage, space exploration and defence, with a focus on sustainability through composite recycling.

Resilient built environments

Augment our expertise in low energy architecture and building services, including digital design, optimization and decision-making tools.

Sustainable manufacturing

Develop sustainable manufacturing technologies to support UK manufacturing industries in key areas such as hydrogen, defence, and nuclear engineering.

Sustainable fashion

Leverage our Design School’s expertise in circular fashion and sustainable textiles and innovative recycling of manufactured materials.

We believe it’s the responsibility of researchers and innovators to find solutions to the ongoing carbon cost of human development, ensuring that the technologies and practices making life safer, healthier and more convenient don’t come at an incalculable cost to the only planet we’ve got.

Decarbonising the modern world
