As a UK leader in renewable energy, Loughborough is at the forefront of hydrogen research, clean energy systems and materials innovation. We’re seeking expertise in the following areas:

Hydrogen research

Be part of our developing hydrogen ecosystem, developing production, storage and transport technologies, integrating with regional hydrogen projects to drive the hydrogen economy and market development.

Electrochemical engineering

With a focus on energy systems such as advanced battery technologies, electrochemical synthesis and waste valorisation, and circular economy solutions including recycling of critical materials.

Advanced materials characterisation

Further strengthening our expertise in developing and understanding the behaviour of materials for engineering applications, supporting cutting-edge research in advanced materials characterisation, especially the activities of the Loughborough Materials Characterisation Centre.

Structural design

Integrating AI in structural design, development of intelligent structures and the use of multi-material lightweight structures.

Whether it’s the underlying technology behind the large-scale green energy plants of the future, or micro-scale fuel cells bringing electricity to remote rural communities for the first time, we are behind critical leaps in how humanity powers its development.

Empowering the planet
